Stark County, Ohio-Sheriff George T. Maier announces that the Stark County Sheriff’s Office will begin an enforcement period focusing on DUI and speed offenders(including motorcyclists).  Arrests will be made and citations wil be issued to include zero tolerance for seat belt offenders. Extra visibility on County roadways will slow down drivers (reducing speed), increase seat belt and helmet usage awareness, and deter drunk driving. This enforcement period will be from AUGUST 16, 2013 through SEPTEMBER 2, 2013.  This will be an additional 120 hours of enforcement throughout Stark County.

Every day in the U.S. almost 30 people die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver.  This amounts to one death every 48 minutes.  During 2012, in Stark County over 48% of the fatal crashes were alcohol and/or drug related.   Seat belts are the most effective lifesaving feature in a vehicle and can be your best protection against serious injury or death in a crash caused by an impaired driver.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office received a grant through the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office, which provides for the additional funding and allows the Stark County Sheriff’s Office to participate in these programs.
