Grants Received for 2003/2004October 7th, 2003Sheriff Tim A. Swanson is pleased to announce that the Stark County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a Speed And D.U.I. Enforcement Grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety. This grant is for $70,695.00 to be used throughout the 2003/2004 year. The Stark County Sheriff's Office will utilize APPROXIMATELY 1,700 HOURS IN ADDITIONAL PATROLS WITH ENHANCED ENFORCEMENT FOR SPEED AND D.U.I. We have identified twenty (20) enforcement periods and outlined the additional enforcement dates in accordance with the grant requirements. The Sheriff's Office will make public service announcements prior to, and after, each enforcement period. The Stark County Sheriff's Office has also received the "COPS IN SHOPS' program grant for the year 2004. We have received $18,630.00 to be utilized in 2003/2004 for additional enforcement of the illegal sales of alcohol to underage persons. Deputies work with area alcohol distributors and arrest those underage persons that try and purchase alcohol at various outlets throughout Stark County. Deputies also investigate reports from citizens regarding any and all establishments that sell alcohol to underage persons throughout Stark County. Anyone with information concerning these types of violations are encouraged to contact the Stark County Sheriff's Office or their local law enforcement agency with the information.
